<p>The article examines the significance of unconscionability within the doctrine of estoppel under English law. Itanalyzes the concept and nature of estoppel as a legal mechanism aimed at protecting reliance and preventing inconsistent and unconscionable conduct in civil and commercial relations. Particular attention is paid to the role of unconscionability as a keyelement of reliance-based estoppels. The article explores the approaches adopted by English courts and legal DOI: 10.24412/2782-3830-2026-7-97-100 № 7 - 2026 98 scholars to the definition of unconscionability, aswell as the difficulties arising from the evaluative nature of this concept. Based on an analysis of judicial practice, it is argued that unconscionability serves as the central criterion for the application of estoppel and enables courts to take into account the specific circumstances of each case while avoiding excessive formalism. The article concludes that estoppel under English lawfunctions as a mechanism for ensuring consistency of conduct and protecting the legitimate expectations of the parties, while unconscionability constitutes itsfunda mental element, providing the doctrine with flexibility and fairness.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>эстоппель</kwd><kwd>эстоппели</kwd><kwd>основанные на доверии</kwd><kwd>недобросовестность</kwd><kwd>непоследовательное поведение</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>estoppel</kwd><kwd>reliance-based estoppels</kwd><kwd>unconscionability</kwd><kwd>inconsistent behavior</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Barnes M.
